The Prime Site is the heart of the KC Simulcast Repeater System. Think of it as the system's central coordinator.
When a signal is received at any repeater site, it is sent to the Prime Site, where it is processed and synchronized. The Prime Site then distributes that audio to every simulcast repeater in the network. Using precise GPS timing, each site transmits the signal at exactly the same moment on the same frequency.
This synchronization is what allows the entire network to operate as a single repeater instead of several independent repeaters. As you travel throughout the coverage area, your radio simply receives the strongest signal from the nearest site, allowing conversations to continue seamlessly without changing frequencies.
In short, the Prime Site keeps every repeater site synchronized, ensuring reliable, consistent communications across the entire KC Simulcast network.
Remote Sites are the repeater locations placed throughout the Kansas City metro and surrounding counties to provide wide-area coverage.
Each remote site is connected to the Prime Site and operates as part of the simulcast network. Rather than functioning as separate repeaters, all of the remote sites transmit the same audio on the same frequency at the exact same time.
When you key your radio, the remote site receiving the strongest signal forwards your transmission to the Prime Site. The Prime Site then synchronizes and sends your audio back to every remote site, where it is broadcast simultaneously across the network.
This allows operators to travel throughout the coverage area without changing frequencies or selecting a different repeater. The remote sites work together as one unified system, providing reliable, seamless communications wherever coverage is available.
